VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MARTHA JANE "COOKY" BRATTON OF YORK COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Martha Jane "Cooky" Bratton at the age of fifty on Sunday, April 11, 2021; and
Whereas, born in York on January 7, 1971, she was the daughter of the late Webster Grier Bratton and Mary Beth Moore Bratton, and she graduated from Clover High School where she played basketball and sang in the school chorus; and
Whereas, Ms. Bratton joined Clover Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and later joined Beyond The Walls Ministry in Clover and served on the Usher Board, Greeters' Ministry, and Women's Ministry and as a Children's Church staff member; and
Whereas, she earned an associate's degree in business administration from Kings College in Charlotte, North Carolina, and for more than ten years, Ms. Bratton served as the property manager at the Market Place Apartments in Rock Hill, diligently assisting all who came in need; and
Whereas, an active member of the Clover Town Council and executive director of the Save Our Children Movement, Ms. Bratton was the founder and CEO of Moms of Miracle Children (MOMC), Incorporated; and
Whereas, she started a "Unity in the Community" event and an Easter Egg event in 2021, and she served as the secretary of the Roosevelt Community Watch; and
Whereas, Ms. Bratton was recognized by United Men's Club of Clover in 2021 at the Second Annual MLK Prayer Event for her leadership, vision, and commitment to the Clover Community; and
Whereas, a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan, she was a proud member of True Star Nation Fan Club, and Ms. Bratton reared three fine children; Kendall Marrice Harrington, Manaja Janae Bailey, and Ania Mone' Bailey. In addition to the love she had for her children, she was blessed with a bonus daughter, Kaiquanisha Thompson, and two bonus grandchildren, Khye and Kailab Atkins, all of Charlotte; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Cooky Bratton and for the example of service and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Martha Jane "Cooky" Bratton of York County and extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Martha Jane "Cooky" Bratton.
