VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MELANIE DRISCOLL OF AIKEN FOR HER FIFTY-ONE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR AND TO WISH HER MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's most important legacy, its children; and
Whereas, Aiken's Melanie Driscoll, who has served (thus far) for fifty-one fruitful years as a classroom teacher, stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one much admired in her role as both educator and community leader; and
Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, the young Melanie attended Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, and at that institution earned a bachelor's degree in education, her field being the biological sciences; and
Whereas, in 1970, an eager first-year teacher, she began her work as an educator with an assignment at Seaford Junior High School on Long Island, New York, where she taught science. After three years of service on Long Island, she moved to South Carolina and continued her teaching career at what was then Jefferson Junior High in Bath. There, she taught science and math; and
Whereas, presently a special education teacher at J.D. Lever Elementary School, Ms. Driscoll has taught in both the general education classroom and special education settings in every grade from kindergarten through senior year in high school. At the end of the 2020-2021 school year, she will have completed forty-eight years of service with the Aiken County Public School District. Only two other employees in the district have a longer tenure; and
Whereas, Ms. Driscoll, greatly admired for her love of her students, is a caring, trustworthy, confident motivator and communicator. She is a true professional with a passion for teaching, and she is not averse to injecting a humorous perspective into her classroom management at suitable times; and
Whereas, further, her colleagues, who agree that patience is one of Melanie Driscoll's virtues, avow that if anyone ever needs to borrow anything from her, her response is always, "Oh, hold on; I've got that." And she can go right to whatever the item might be and find it; and
Whereas, on the home front, Melanie Driscoll is the proud mom of one daughter, who graduated from Aiken High School, received her bachelor's degree in music education from Furman University, and recently received her master's degree in music from Boston University. She is currently teaching music in the Boston area; and
Whereas, having always set the bar of achievement high in her profession, Melanie Driscoll holds the respect, affection, and gratitude of colleagues, students, parents, and legislative friends. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Melanie Driscoll of Aiken for her fifty-one years of dedicated service as an educator and wish her much continued success and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Melanie Driscoll.
