A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND SENIOR JACOBY JOHNSON OF CHARLESTON'S BURKE HIGH SCHOOL FOR HIS OUTSTANDING RECORD OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS AS HE GRADUATES IN JUNE 2021.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Jacoby Johnson has compiled a fine record during his high school career; and

Whereas, born in Charleston, Jacoby is the grandson of Mrs. Sarah Johnson, son of Ms. Jacqueline C. Johnson, and nephew of Ms. Deborah Johnson. Jacoby's father is deceased; and

Whereas, throughout his educational journey, this Burke High School senior has earned principal's list and honor roll recognition. He has been recognized for his commitment to being a person of good character with excellent leadership skills. His efforts have earned Jacoby citizenship awards from elementary to high school. He is a recipient of the Burke High School Bark Award for demonstrating outstanding citizenship; and

Whereas, further, Jacoby is the Heisman school winner and made the All-Region football team as an offensive lineman for the 2020-2021 school year, during which he played offensive and defensive lineman, as well as linebacker. He also plays baseball at Burke High School. A true scholar, he currently has a 4.01 GPA in his honors and advanced placement classes; and

Whereas, Jacoby also is a member of the Upward Bound Program held at the College of Charleston and attends classes, workshops, and conferences. His experiences at the college inspire him and increase his determination to give back by educating others; and

Whereas, as a young man of faith, he is a member of Morris Brown AME Church in Charleston. He has served as vice president of the Morris Brown AME Young People's and Children's Division, as a youth usher and member of the church's youth choir, and as Morris Brown AME King. Jacoby also was the AME 7th District Allen Star winner and Self-Denial Artistic winner on the episcopal level, and he was recognized as a master in the AME Debs and Masters program in fall 2021. Jacoby displays his musical talent by playing the bongo drums during Sunday services. Being a thoughtful individual, he assists church members boarding the church transport van and cheerfully escorts them into the church; and

Whereas, volunteering is a favorite activity for Jacoby. He served on the City of Charleston Volunteer Corporation Advisory Board, volunteered with Feed Thy Neighborhood and with the Burke High School Step Team, of which he is a member. Jacoby also has volunteered at Unity Day, sponsored by Representative Wendell Gilliard each year, and at other community events; and

Whereas, Jacoby plans to attend college and earn a bachelor's degree in education, a master's degree in business administration, and a doctorate in education administration. Ultimately, he plans to serve as an educator and administrator and own a restaurant, and he will continue to volunteer; and

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in recognizing Jacoby Johnson on his praiseworthy record of accomplishments and extends congratulations to him as he approaches the completion of his high school career. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend senior Jacoby Johnson of Charleston's Burke High School for his outstanding record of volunteer service and athletic and academic achievement and extend best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors as he graduates in June 2021.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jacoby Johnson.
