A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. ANN PRINGLE WASHINGTON, PRESIDENT OF BRIGGS AND PRINGLE ASSOCIATES, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR EARNING A DOCTORAL DEGREE IN PUBLIC HEALTH FROM THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS AT THE VENERABLE AGE OF SEVENTY-FIVE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Ann Pringle Washington, at the age of seventy-five, recently earned a doctorate in public health from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC); and

Whereas, she earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs from Columbia College and a master's degree in public health services policy and management from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of the Delta Omega Graduate Honor Society and the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health; and

Whereas, with a background as a leader and board member of healthcare governance, Ms. Washington became intrigued by the possibility of improving patient-centered outcomes while lowering the cost of providing care; and

Whereas, she spent three years on sabbatical to complete a rigorous public health graduate program at the MUSC College of Health Professions in a curriculum that prepared her to provide generative views on healthcare opportunities, spanning beyond basic strategies for improvement and incorporating research, professional knowledge, and experience to guide the decision process; and

Whereas, as president of Briggs and Pringle Associates, Ms. Washington advises healthcare companies based on their needs assessment, providing them with her more than twenty-five years of policy, executive leadership, and governance experience; and

Whereas, she has experience with the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General and South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as an appointment by the Governor to the state's Agency Head Salary Commission, and she was active as a member and chair of local and corporate boards for over twelve years; and

Whereas, dedicated to the needs of her community, Ms. Washington serves on the Cancer Board, Foundation Board, and Children's Hospital Board. She served on the board of visitors for Columbia College and Clemson University and chaired the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Minority Business Council; and

Whereas, together with her husband, Richard Washington, she formed the Eastover-Lower Richland Business Association, which purchased and partially restored the historic one-hundred-year-old Merchants Bank Building, and the structure was donated to the Town of Eastover as a hub for the community; and

Whereas, she was honored as a USDA Featured Business Owner and an AT&T South Carolina African American honoree and received the Virgil C. Summer Award for Community Involvement, National Minority Business Development Leadership Award, Columbia College Most Likely to Succeed, and IMARA Woman magazine's Business Leader Award; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to commend Dr. Ann Washington, and the members congratulate her on her exceptional accomplishments, exemplifying that strength of character and determination have no age limit. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Ann Pringle Washington, president of Briggs and Pringle Associates, and congratulate her for earning a doctoral degree in public health from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Health Professions at the venerable age of seventy-five.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Ann Pringle Washington.
