A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 44-37-35, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO REQUIRED NEWBORN HEALTH SCREENINGS, SO AS TO ADD THE CONDITION OF SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 44-37-35(A) of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 55 of 2019, is amended to read:

    "(A)    Neonatal testing conducted pursuant to Section 44-37-30 must include testing for the following:

        (1)    Krabbe disease;

        (2)    Pompe disease; and

        (3)    Hurler syndrome; and

        (4)    Spinal muscular atrophy."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. Implementation of this act is contingent upon available funding from public sources.
