TO SALUTE THE CATAWBA RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND, BAND DIRECTORS, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A SENSATIONAL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2021 SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, having prepared themselves for success, the Catawba High School Marching Band outplayed all comers to capture the 2021 South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) Class AAA state crown; and
Whereas, held at Batesburg-Leesville High School on Saturday, October 30, 2021, the competition featured the crème de la crème of South Carolina's 3A school bands. Catawba Ridge, which opened its doors for the first time in 2019, captured the crown with a superlative performance of its show, "In Suspense," giving the new school its first state title; and
Whereas, at the state competition, bands were judged on more than a dozen individual and ensemble marks that included music, visual, and overall effect. Catawba Ridge dominated its field, finishing more than six points ahead of its nearest competitor, Powdersville High School. Further, Catawba Ridge was the only band in South Carolina, regardless of classification, to rank No. 1 in every category in its competition. The 94.4 overall score for Catawba Ridge was, across classifications, the highest total in the State; and
Whereas, using his own considerable musical skills and training, Director of Bands Patrick Butler forged a championship band program and taught his musicians important lessons that will serve them well beyond the marching field. In achieving this milestone win, he enjoyed the able support of Assistant Director of Bands David Shives and the rest of his talented staff; and
Whereas, proud of these young musicians' commitment and success, the House takes great pleasure in honoring the Catawba Ridge High School marching band for capturing the 2021 3A state title. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, salute the Catawba High School marching band, band directors, and school officials for a sensational season and congratulate them on winning the 2021 South Carolina Band Directors Association Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Darren Wilson and Director of Bands Patrick Butler of Catawba High School.
