A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JOSEPH SAMUEL "JOEY" AVERY, JR., EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR OF LAURENS COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN THREE DECADES OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives has learned that Joey Avery will begin a well-deserved retirement after thirty-one years of service to Emergency Management of Laurens County, the last of which have been as the highly regarded director of communications; and

Whereas, Mr. Avery graduated from Clinton High School and studied at Piedmont Technical College and Limestone College; and

Whereas, in the patriotic tradition of sons of the Palmetto State, he served his country in the United States Navy. Before his service with the Emergency Management of Laurens County, he was employed at the Muller Company and Van Dorn Plastics; and

Whereas, devoted to his community, Mr. Avery served as a past president of the Laurens Exchange Club and has been a member of the Laurens County Fair Association, Palmetto Masonic Lodge, Laurens County Shrine Club, Hejaz Shrine Temple-Greenville, Palmetto Military Academy Association, and South Carolina National Guard Association; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church, he has received numerous awards and accolades for his exemplary service, including recognition among Ten at the Top of Unsung Heroes; and

Whereas, he plans to spend many happy hours of retirement with his beloved wife, Desiree, and their family; and

Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to Laurens County, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Joey Avery as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Joseph Samuel "Joey" Avery, Jr., Emergency Management Communications Director of Laurens County, upon the occasion of his retirement after more than three decades of outstanding service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Joseph Samuel "Joey" Avery.
