A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE ADATH YESHURUN SYNAGOGUE UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND IT FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE GREATER AIKEN COMMUNITY, THE CENTRAL SAVANNAH AREA, AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Adath Yeshurun Synagogue as it celebrates this important milestone; and

Whereas, Adath Yeshurun Synagogue was completed in 1921, and its cornerstone was dedicated four years later. Its three Torahs, which are each about one hundred years old, were donated by families in the community; and

Whereas, Aiken has had a permanent Jewish settlement since the 1890s. While always small in number, these Jewish residents were integral to the fabric of the town, maintaining their religious identity while becoming important contributors to civic life; and

Whereas, Adath Yeshurun Synagogue is considered the longest observing small town Jewish congregation in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of Adath Yeshurun Synagogue to serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Adath Yeshurun Synagogue upon the occasion of its one hundredth anniversary and commend it for its many years of dedicated service to the greater Aiken community, the Central Savannah River Area, and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Adath Yeshurun Synagogue.
