To who was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 437) to recognize and honor veterans for their service to the United States and to call for the creation of a new military base that would assist veterans in their transition, etc., respectfully

A concurrent RESOLUTION

TO recognize and honor veterans for their service to the united states and to call for the creation of a new military base that would assist veterans in their transition to civilian life.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize our United States veterans for their service to our country; and

Whereas, while military personnel receive three to four months of training that enables them to transition from civilian to military life, when veterans return from their service, they are released into civilian life with no preparation; and

Whereas, many of our nations' veterans struggle to acclimate to civilian life following their service. They face illnesses that may require care and psychological trauma that may require therapeutic treatment. Currently, these veterans are not receiving adequate support; and

Whereas, this resolution calls for the creation of a new military base for the purpose of assisting veterans in their transition from military to civilian life. This base would be staffed by psychologists and other medical personnel that can analyze and treat any returning military personnel; and

Whereas, in addition to providing veterans with medical care, this new base would offer veterans classes that will teach them how to process their emotional responses to the violence they have witnessed and classes on how to avoid drug and alcohol abuse; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that veterans of the United States have shown in serving the State of South Carolina and the nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor veterans for their service to the United States and to call for the creation of a new military base that would assist veterans in their transition to civilian life.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to each member of the of the South Carolina delegation to the United States Congress.
