A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 1-11-730, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN STATE HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE PLANS, SO AS TO CLARIFY THAT COVERAGE FOR A RETIREE WITH AT LEAST FIVE YEARS' SERVICE UNDER A STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM IS LIMITED TO SERVICE IN A STATE-COVERED ENTITY AND TO REQUIRE THE LAST FIVE YEARS OF SUCH SERVICE TO HAVE BEEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS IN A FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 1-11-730(D) of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 364 of 1992, is amended to read:

"(D) A person covered by the plans who retires with at least five years' state-covered entity service credited under a state retirement system is eligible to participate in the plan by paying the full premium costs as determined by the board, if the last five years are consecutive and in a full-time permanent position with a state-covered entity.

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies with respect to eligibility determinations made after June 30, 1992.
