Whereas, Nancy Mickens Green of Columbia was born in Fairfield County and is the daughter of the late Jim and Sallie Mickens; she had one sister and one brother, both of whom are deceased; and

Whereas, Mrs. Green received her education at the old Howard School on Assembly Street in the City of Columbia; she commenced her religious training at Ebenezer Church as a young girl; at that time the church was located in the 1600 block of Sumter Street; she attended Sunday School, served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, and attended BYPU (Bible study) every Sunday evening; and

Whereas, it was during this time that she met and married the late Leonard Green, Sr., son of Reverend John and Daisy Beaty Green; the union of Nancy M. Green and Leonard Green, Sr., led to nine children, thirty grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Green was employed by Quarter Master Laundry at Fort Jackson and retired from that position after twenty-seven years of outstanding, devoted service; while employed, she was presented with several awards of appreciation such as "dedicated employee", "attendance", "diversity of ability to work in different departments", "expertise in doing a job with more precision in less time", and "peacemaker"; and

Whereas, she enjoys reading the Bible, fishing, and attending her family's monthly meetings; her major concern is for people to "always put Christ in the center of everything and to do what is right"; she dearly loves the church and her church family; she is constantly encouraged by the love and appreciation shown to her by the good people of Ebenezer Church; she is an outstanding individual of great faith, hope, and love; she is respected and admired by all who know her; she has served the church faithfully and is highly deserving of recognition especially on this happy and heartfelt occasion of Mother's Day, May 10, 1998. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends Nancy Mickens Green of Columbia, on the occasion of Mother's Day, for her exceptional devotion to her family, friends, and church.
