TO CONGRATULATE MRS. LINDA WINBURN, AN EIGHTH GRADE TEACHER AT SUMMIT PARKWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, UPON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2004-2005 BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Mrs. Linda Winburn has been named Teacher of the Year for 2004-2005 by the South Carolina Department of Education; and
Whereas, Mrs. Winburn, affectionately known as "Cookie", is an eighth grade teacher at Summit Parkway Middle School in Columbia and teaches ALERT Social Studies and language arts; and
Whereas, she has been a teacher with Richland County School District Two since 1989 when she moved to Columbia and her selection as Teacher of the Year continues the great tradition of wonderful teachers in Richland County School District Two receiving statewide honors; and
Whereas, she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from the University of Louisville, and is one of the great teachers in South Carolina who has received National Board Certification; and
Whereas, Cookie Winburn is a leader in the teaching profession. Among other activities, she is vice chair of the Richland School District Two Teacher Forum, Mentor for First Year/Induction Teachers and Teachers new to Richland Two, presenter and consultant for State Department of Education in Language Arts Standards, consultant and editor for Blue Ribbon Schools Applications, and National Board Regional Liaison for Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA); and
Whereas, this talented and personable lady was named Richland School District Two and Summit Parkway Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2003 and her classroom in her words gives children "a safe place to be themselves, a place to experience the world through books, and a place to grow that would take them into the world with the knowledge and excitement to succeed at whatever they wanted to be"; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this truly outstanding educator for her contributions to her students and to the education profession on her receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Mrs. Linda Winburn, an eighth grade teacher at Summit Parkway Middle School in Columbia, upon being named South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2004-2005 by the South Carolina Department Of Education.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Linda Winburn.
