Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly on behalf of all South Carolinians acknowledge with deep appreciation the great sacrifice that the men and women of the United States Armed Forces make for the ideals of freedom and justice which are so richly enjoyed in this nation; and

Whereas, answering the call of his country to serve with the Army National Guard's First Battalion 118th Infantry in Afghanistan, Specialist David Lee Leimbach left his family and his home in Taylors, South Carolina; and

Whereas, on May 25, 2008, at the age of thirty-eight, Specialist Leimbach lost his life in the line of duty while under hostile fire in Afghanistan for the cause of freedom; and

Whereas, on January 9, 2008, while home on leave from duty in Afghanistan, Specialist Leimbach married his beloved wife Dawn Gates; and

Whereas, when his tour of duty concluded in May, he volunteered to stay in Afghanistan through October to assist a detachment from the New York National Guard with security missions; and

Whereas, there is no greater or braver sacrifice than for a man to lay down his life for his country; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great honor in remembering the life and sacrifice of one of South Carolina's brave sons and heroes, Specialist David Lee Leimbach; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly would like to express to the widow, family, and friends of Specialist Leimbach their grateful appreciation for his life, his sacrifice, and his service. Now, therefore,
