A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE LIFE OF ARMY PFC AUBREY D. VAUGHN, KOREAN WAR PRISONER OF WAR, AND TO DECLARE APRIL 12, 2016 AS "PFC. AUBREY D. VAUGHN DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Pfc. Aubrey D. Vaughn died while a prisoner of war in North Korea in 1951. Mr. Vaughn heroically served this country in the Korean War. He was reported missing in action when his company was overrun by the Chinese Communist Forces near Undamjang, North Korea on April 23, 1951; and

Whereas, it was reported that Mr. Vaughn died while in captivity at a prisoner of war camp; and

Whereas, in 1954, the remains of Korean War service members were returned to the United States in an operation called "Operation Glory". The remains were unable to be identified at the time and were interred as unknowns at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii; and

Whereas, in 2015, due to advancements in technology, the remains were exhumed for analysis, and in conjunction with the circumstantial evidence available, the remains were determined to be those of Pfc. Vaughn; and

Whereas, Mr. Vaughn will be laid to rest on April 12, 2016, what would have been his eighty-fifth birthday, in Union, South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are eternally grateful for the sacrifice made by Pfc. Vaughn and those like him, and wish to never forget his life and legacy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and recognize the life of Army Pfc. Aubrey D. Vaughn, Korean War prisoner of war, and declare April 12, 2016 as "Pfc. Aubrey D. Vaughn Day" in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Pfc. Aubrey D. Vaughn
