A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE APRIL 27, 2017, AS "DONATED DENTAL SERVICES RECOGNITION DAY" AND TO HONOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA DENTAL ASSOCIATION, THE DENTAL LIFELINE NETWORK OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND THE HUNDREDS OF DENTISTS AND DENTAL LABORATORIES THAT VOLUNTEER FOR THE DONATED DENTAL SERVICES PROGRAM.

Whereas, the Dental Lifeline Network of South Carolina and the South Carolina Dental Association established the Donated Dental Services Program in 2012; and

Whereas, through the Donated Dental Services Program, dentists and dental laboratories are able to donate comprehensive treatment to people with disabilities or those who are elderly or medically fragile and cannot afford dental care; and

Whereas, over one hundred fifty-eight dentists and twenty-eight dental labs volunteer for the Donated Dental Services Program. Since the program's inception, they have treated over two hundred seventy-five people throughout South Carolina with seriously neglected dental problems, from those with disabilities to the elderly or medically fragile; and

Whereas, through the generosity and benevolence of dentists and laboratories throughout the State of South Carolina, the South Carolina Donated Dental Services Program recently surpassed the landmark milestone of supplying $1 million in donated dental services. Nationally, the Donated Dental Services Program has provided more than $350 million in donated dental services; and

Whereas, the strength and success of the State of South Carolina, the vitality of our communities, and the effectiveness of society depend, in great measure, upon concerned and devoted programs as exemplified by the South Carolina Donated Dental Services Program. The generous contributions of those who volunteer have improved the lives of vulnerable South Carolinians and have made the State a better place to live. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize April 27, 2017, as "Donated Dental Services Recognition Day" and honor the South Carolina Dental Association, the Dental Lifeline Network of South Carolina, and the hundreds of dentists and dental laboratories that volunteer for the Donated Dental Services Program.
